What is the difference between PPF and a Ceramic Coating?
2026/05/28
While both products protect your car's exterior, they serve entirely different primary functions. The best way to look at it is: PPF is for impact protection, while Ceramic Coating is for surface chemistry.
| Feature | Paint Protection Film (PPF) | Ceramic Coating |
| Material | A thick, physical polyurethane (TPU) film (~6-8 mils). | A liquid polymer that cures into a micro-thin ceramic layer. |
| Rock Chip Defense | Excellent. Absorbs high-velocity impacts from road debris. | None. Too thin to prevent rock chips. |
| Visual Appearance | Keeps paint looking factory-new; available in gloss or matte. | Deepens gloss, adds an intense, glass-like shine. |
| Maintenance | Prevents physical damage; requires standard washing. | Extremely hydrophobic; repels water, dirt, and mud easily. |
